I'm not sure what I was expecting from the book Interrupted by Jen Hatmaker. Besides reading her blog faithfully I've only read her book Modern Girls Guide to Bible Study. Regardless, this is a book that anyone who has grown up in the church needs to read.
Written in the same style as any blog post, Facebook status or what I imagine a conversation with Jen would be like, Interrupted is really 2 books in one. The first part of this book is the back story behind how Jen and Brandon Hatmaker began to understand with clarity the unique call God has placed on their life. I really appreciated how Brandon wrote his parts, allowing the reader to understand how partnership in marriage and ministry can work. The second part of this book is really a call to action.
I cannot put into words how deeply I appreciated the honesty and humility with which this book is written. Each section lists a wealth of resources to help the reader process the steps previously introduced. The Hatmakers are very passionate about their ministry and church and it shows on the pages of this book, but more specifically, it shows in their daily actions. This is a book about showing people who Jesus truly is in a time when people are leaving the churches in masses.
