I have to admit, this is the MOST annoying question asked of our family. It takes every ounce of strength not to say "What break?"
Coaching on any level is a very challenging profession for any sport, but I truly believe that because sports are so public people forget that there is A LOT that goes on behind the scenes to be ready to perform.
For some reason, it makes sense that during the season practice needs to occur for games, but that is all.
Not only do our players need to practice, watch film and lift, but once the season is over the hard work begins.
On a weekly basis they are full time students, many work part time jobs, they participate in student government, student activities, host radio shows, and so on...PLUS they lift weights, continue to work on cardio, lead small groups for the team, and work on leadership development.
SOMEHOW, this is all done without any coaches guidance. Additionally, people seem to think 65 players magically appear the following fall.
So, the next time you run into a coach of any sport, ask them what they are currently reading or have they scene the latest movies, but PLEASE, don't assume they are on vacation.
